Charlotte is truly an Aviation City. Aviation is one of the cornerstones of the economic and cultural development of Charlotte and the reason a small town has become an international hub. Today, the continued prosperity of the Carolinas is dependent on the CLT airport and thriving aviation industries.
The Museum will open this final thematic area later this fall. Aviation City will live in the Museum’s historic WPA/Douglas hangar and will survey the economic and cultural development of Charlotte and the Carolinas’ past, present and future. This area features an F-84 Thunderjet, a Stearman biplane, and a Lockheed T-33, among others.
